Genium and Mike Cinquanti work every year to secure funding in the New York State Budget for various workforce development and training programs. Below is some information that the Workforce Development Institute has been able to implement because of such funding.
“Your Connection to High Road Careers in New York’s Union Building Trades“
ApprenticeshipWorks (ApprenticeshipWorksNY.org/) is the online home for up-to-date interactive information about the apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeship programs offered by New York’s Unionized Building and Construction Trades (NYS BCTC). The site – works equally well on laptops, desktops, tablets, and mobile devices – empowers career explorers to learn about the exciting work each trade performs, the skills needed taught in each apprenticeship and even click through to connect directly with local unions and get started on their journey to a career in the building and construction industry.
Since the site’s launch in 2023, there has been incredible growth in the number of career explorers visiting the site. To date, the site has had over 60,000 visits from all over New York State. The site’s popularity is thanks to the work of key partners spreading the word. Promotional support has come from the NYS BCTC, Statewide Pre-apprenticeship Program, the NYS Department of Labor Teacher Ambassador Program, NYSERDA, countless public workforce events, and, of course, from each of New York’s building trade unions. These partners all recognize the importance of providing young people and job seekers with easy-to-use, practical tools that give them agency over their career and educational choices.
Key Stats:
So far in 2025, total site visits are approaching 50,000. That’s almost three times the total number of active apprentices in New York State.
The Operating Engineers, Sheet Metal Workers, Electricians, Pipe Trades, and Elevator Constructors saw the most traffic referred from ApprenticeshipWorks, accounting for roughly 60% of “click-throughs” from career explorers.
To date, traffic from New York City has represented roughly 35% of career explorers with the remainder coming from counties across New York State and even some visitors from neighboring states.
ApprenticeshipWorks is proudly offered at no-cost, supported by funding from the NYS Budget. It gives career explorers a trusted resource to search, compare, and connect directly to Building Trades Unions. In turn, Union Apprenticeship programs get a productive new way to capture the attention of those hungry for a high-quality career, but unsure where to start. Likewise, workforce developers and educators get a portal for their students and clients to gain validated, action-oriented information on building trade careers.
